Historic monument status

Napraforgó street housing estate did not enjoy any protection until 1974. The book „List of historic monuments of Budapest” published in 1976 already lists the street in the category of „area of historic significance”. In this year three protected houses are mentioned in the national list of historic monuments: no.6-8 designed by Lajos Kozma, no. 11 designed by László Vágó and no. 19 designed by Gedeon Gerlóczy.

The National Office of Cultural Heritage initiated to proclaim all of the houses of Napraforgó street as cultural heritage which was declared by regulation 12/1999. (VIII. 18.) NKÖM. The committed co-workers of the Office focused on the reinstatement of the buildings’ original state during renovations. Prior to starting the renovations works, the preparation of a historical and scientific documentation was required based on available documents and ground plans.
