Place in the world

Only a few integrated family housing estates reflecting modern architectural endeavours survived in its original form all over the world. Werkbundsiedlung in Vienna and Weissenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart were severely damaged in the 2nd World War. Similar damage was the fate of the Masters’ Houses in Dessau – one of these houses was the home of László Moholy-Nagy. This housing estate was reopened as a museum for the public in 2019, at the occasion of the centenary of Bauhaus.

Two buildings of the Weissenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart, the Berliner Moderne housing estate, the Bauhaus buildings in Dessau, Weimar and Bernau, as well as the White City in Tel Aviv are on the World Heritage list.
